Military experts are warning the reduction of Australia’s Navy fleet until the early 2030s could leave the nation exposed in the wake of China’s military build-up.
It comes as the Australian Navy spending package is expected to increase the number of warships in the long term, but will see a shrinkage of the fleet in the short term.
The Navy’s major surface combatants will rise from 11 to 20.
With an additional six surface vessels being introduced to support the main fleet.
Commentators have applauded the government for the extra spending on high end naval capability.
