CFMEU Victoria State Secretary John Sekta says he was “taken aback” by multimillionaire property developer Tim Gurner’s comments on unemployment and productivity.
Mr Gurner made his comments at a property summit, calling for a 50 per cent increase in unemployment to encourage Australians to work harder, targeting tradies and younger workers.
“Jobs are all union jobs – I mean I don’t know whether he was taken out of context,” Mr Sekta told Sky News Australia.
“I haven’t watched the interview – my understanding is he’s apologised for it.
“If he really means what he said I think it’s a bit alarming, I think we’ve gone a long way in the construction industry, them against us mentality is really almost non-existent.”
