Treasurer Jim Chalmers says the Commonwealth has “substantial” responsibility for decisions made in the COVID-19 years.
His comments come as the Labor government launches an inquiry into the government’s handling of the pandemic years.
“We take responsibility as a Commonwealth for the big, impactful decisions that our predecessors had to take and often with our support to be fair,” Mr Chalmers told Sky News Australia.
“So, our job as a Commonwealth government is to take responsibility for learning the lessons from the past to apply them to the future.
“There’s nothing preventing the states from participating, making submissions to this review.”
