Charges have been laid after a 22-year-old was allegedly set on fire at an event in New South Wales over the weekend.
“About 6.40pm on Saturday (30 September 2023), emergency services responded to reports a man had been set on fire within the campsite area at the Deniliquin Ute Muster,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“A 22-year-old man was found suffering significant facial burns. He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to Alfred Hospital in Victoria, where he remains in a serious condition.”
Officers from Murray River Police District commenced an investigation into the incident, with inquiries leading to the arrest of an 18-year-old man at Wagga Wagga Police Station at approximately 6pm on Monday.
“He was charged with do grievous bodily harm by the use of corrosive fluid, reckless grievous bodily harm, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm,” NSW Police said
“The man was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Deniliquin Local Court on Wednesday 15 November 2023.”
Approximately 20,000 people attend the Deniliquin Ute Muster, a weekend-long motersport and country culture event held approximately 70km north of Echuca.
